The city was still finding its footing as one of California's newest - incorporated just a few years earlier - and the neighborhoods were a mix of older ranch homes in Rubidoux and Glen Avon alongside newer subdivisions spreading out toward Mira Loma. The crew saw firsthand what the Inland Empire's clay soils and triple-digit summers do to brick, concrete, and mortar over time.
